PREVIEW: the 2025 WorldWCR field gathers at Cremona for a Test ahead of the new campaign
All 24 riders on this year’s WorldWCR grid will head to Italy as the Cremona Circuit hosts the Test for the riders hoping to make history this year
The FIM Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship field heads to the Cremona Circuit for their Test on Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th April, with all 24 riders set to take part in the two-day outing. Split into sessions across both days, every rider will get 10 practice sessions to tick off their checklist ahead of the season starting at the TT Circuit Assen next weekend. While riders will have been training and preparing throughout the off-season to start 2025 in the best possible way, this test is the first chance riders will get to compare themselves to their rivals on the Yamaha R7 machine. Each session will be 20 minutes long, with the action starting at 12:15 Local Time (UTC+2) on Thursday and 09:30 Local Time on Friday.
BRINGING KEY EXPERIENCE: winners and podium finishers from 2024…
Several riders are staying in the Championship for a second season, including runner-up Maria Herrera (Klint Forward Racing Team) as she looks to go one better than she did in 2024. She won more races than anyone else last season and will hope to keep that going. Sara Sanchez (Terra & Vita GRT Yamaha WorldWCR Team) is the only other winner from 2024 on the grid, while Beatriz Neila (Ampito Crescent Yamaha), Roberta Ponziani (Klint Forward Racing Team) and Tayla Relph (Full Throttle Racing) – all on the rostrum last year – will be hoping the Cremona kickstarts a title challenge in 2025.
2024’S OTHER RETURNEES: can they be in the mix in 2025?
The Cremona test also gives a first chance for some more of 2024’s returnees to get up to speed against their competition. The highest-placed of these from last year is Pakita Ruiz (PR46+1 Racing Team), who was consistent throughout the year with a P6 finish, while Astrid Madrigal (Pons Italika Racing FIMLA) was eighth. Both will be looking to move up the order in 2025. Ornella Ongaro (511 Riders Experience) rounded out last year’s top ten, just ahead of Mallory Dobbs (Diva Racing), while Isis Carreno (Pons Italika Racing FIMLA), Adela Ourednickova (DafitMotoracing), Chun Mei Liu (WT Team Taiwan), Emily Bondi (ZELOS Trasimeno), Lucy Michel (TSL-Racing) and Jessica Howden (Team Trasimeno) finished P11-to P17. The Cremona test is their chance to see how any winter preparation has given them a step forward and see how they stack up against this year’s grid.
FIRST ACTION FOR THE ROOKIES: Cremona the first chance to measure up against experienced riders
Several of 2025’s rookies already have some experience of WorldWCR. Chloe Jones (GR Motosport) raced at Jerez and secured a pair of P6s, while Avalon Lewis (Carl Cox Motorsports) took a best of P5 as a wildcard at Cremona. Sonya Lloyd (Team Trasimeno) was another who was at Jerez although didn’t score, nor did Beatrice Barbera (Team GP3 AD11) when she raced at Misano. While all have WorldWCR experience and the Yamaha R7, they’re all entering their first full campaign in the Championship – as is Jamie Hanks-Elliott (Hanks Racing), who did half the season in 2024, but returns for a full season this year. Four riders will get their first taste of WorldWCR action ever at Cremona, with Lucie Boudesseul (GMT94-YAMAHA), Natalia Rivera (Terra & Vita GRT Yamaha WorldWCR Team), Madalena Simoes (FB Racing Team) and Billee Fuller (Carl Cox Motorsports) all debuting during the test.
